Victorian Tourism Awards
Sundowner Ovens Valley Motor Inn has taken out first place at the Melbourne Airport 2008 Victorian Tourism Awards in the category of Standard Accommodation.
More than 120 businesses and individuals from across the State vied for top honours at the prestigious awards held on 17 November at Crown Palladium in Melbourne.
The Ovens Valley Motor Inn is a quality accommodation provider offering a AAA Tourism 3½ green star standard.
The property offers 24 motel units, a 60 seat restaurant with bar and open fire place, inviting pool, sauna, spa and BBQ area and excellent tennis facilities. All this set in manicured gardens, surrounded by green fields and towering hills close to the Ovens River in Bright, North East Victoria.
Owners Shannon and Simeon Crawley have developed an innovative business model for the property to remain leaders in this dynamic industry.
“By working together with regional tourism industry partners over the past four years we have developed our popular coach group tour packages. The awards submission process has been an invaluable tool in the development of our tourism product, to win, has just been the icing on the cake!” Shannon Crawley said.
As a Victorian Tourism Awards winner, Ovens Valley Motor Inn will go on to represent Victoria at the 2008 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards to be held in Melbourne on 27 February 2009.
The Minister for Tourism and Major Events,Tim Holding, congratulated Simeon and Shannon on their achievement. “The Awards recognise tourism businesses striving for excellence and Ovens Valley Motor Inn was judged best in their field,” Mr Holding said.
“The Victorian Tourism Awards have been recognising innovation, creativity and professionalism in the State’s tourism industry since 1985.
“The Awards reinforce the enormous value of tourism to the community, highlight the great experiences on offer across Victoria and recognise the hard work of tourism operators who go that extra step to provide their guests with a quality experience.”
At the Presentation and Gala Ceremony winners were announced in 28 categories ranging from all levels of accommodation to tourism retailing, education and training and marketing. Three additional awards honoured individual contributions to the industry.
